Teacher Strategies: Deaf-blindness
Learn by doing:
Deaf-blind students learn by doing as they cannot see or hear. Teacher bonding with the instructor is key, as the student needs to feel safe during activities.
Co-active learning with the instructor will show the student how to succeed, and as the student's performance in the routine improves, the support should be faded to deter dependence on the instructor.
Tactile communication:
Signals, gestures, or objects can be used to teach a deaf-blind student. Developed through routine and reinforcement, students will become with feeling certain objects or performing certain gestures to communicate. Later, this type of communication can transform into sign language.
